Samuel Whitey shuts out Raleigh on 2 hits

BROOKLYN - Brooklyn's right-hander Samuel
Whitey is a great pitcher. And he once again showed
his stuff, blanking Raleigh on just 2 hits. It's his
2nd shutout this season, and the 28th time he has done
it in his career. Whitey (14-9) struck out 9 and walked
none, throwing 69 of 121 pitches for strikes. 'I'll
have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put
all the right fingers down today.' Brooklyn's rightfielder
Mel Ott finished with 1 hit
in 4 AB, blasting a homerun. That was enough to support
the brilliant performance of Whitey. Brooklyn improved
its record to 67-32, scoring 4 runs on 9 hits.
